Director of Facilities Management

About the role

SecureSpace Management is seeking a Director of Facilities Management to own the physical condition, capital program, and maintenance operations of a national self‑storage portfolio of 100+ facilities across 15+ states. This hands‑on leadership role manages a distributed facilities team and partners with Operations, Accounting, Development, and Asset Management to ensure institutional quality and asset performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the nationwide facilities management team, standardizing processes, measuring performance, and ensuring compliance with SOPs.
• Design, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance, work‑order intake, emergency response, and vendor selection programs.
• Oversee regional vendor contracts for HVAC, roofing, fire safety, elevators, landscaping, pest control, and more, negotiating master agreements to leverage portfolio scale.
• Manage the annual Capex and R&M budgets, track spend, and report variances while prioritizing projects across the portfolio.
• Direct major capital projects from scoping and budgeting through bidding, construction management, and close‑out.
• Collaborate with Operations, Accounting, Development, and Asset Management to align facility health, budgeting, and acquisition activities.

Required profile

• 8+ years of facilities management experience, including 5+ years overseeing a multi‑site portfolio.
• 5+ years of direct people management experience.
• Proven track record of owning capital projects from concept to completion.
• Strong command of building systems, construction methods, and vendor contracting.
• Ability to travel up to 50% and work full‑time from the Los Angeles office.
