Youth Multi-Sport Coach - Oakland (Fall 2026)

About the role

ANTS (America's Next Talented Stars) is looking for passionate part-time youth sports coaches for K-5th grade students in Oakland for the Fall 2026 season. Coaches lead weekly after-school sports enrichment classes at one or more partner elementary schools in Oakland and the greater East Bay. No previous coaching experience is required, as all coaches receive training.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a fun and safe weekly sports class for children aged 5-10, teaching the fundamentals of sports through a cohesive, game-filled lesson plan.
• Attend an in-person orientation training.
• Arrive on time each week for the full season and keep accurate attendance.
• Interact positively with parents, teachers and school staff.
• Set up before and clean up after each program, and transport coaching equipment to and from class each week.
• Be available for weekday classes between 3 and 6 p.m., at least one day per week, for a 10 to 14-week season; some programs have back-to-back classes.
• If joining the flag football league, be available for Saturday game days.

Required profile

• Reliable transportation to the coaching sites; a vehicle is very helpful because equipment must be brought to and from class.
• Strong communication skills, using email and phone with ANTS, parents and site staff.
• Positive, patient attitude and belief in sportsmanship, wellness and positivity.
• Experience as a player or coach (at least two years) is highly valued but optional.
• Must pass a federal and state background check and/or FBI fingerprinting and test negative for tuberculosis within the last four years.

What we offer

• Pay of $25-35 per hour.
• Flexible schedule allowing a few hours in the afternoon alongside school and other commitments.
• Ongoing support and training, and the chance to return for the whole school year and weekend or summer programs.
• Experience in early childhood sports education.
