Recess Program Site Lead & Lead Sports Coach - Oakland 2026-27

About the role

ANTS Sports, a Bay Area youth sports organization serving grades K-5, is looking for a Recess Program Site Lead and Lead Sports Coach for a new recess partnership in Oakland for the 2026-27 school year. The role combines running daily recess programming at a school site with leading a small team of coaches, and offers additional after-school youth sports coaching hours (typically 3-6 pm). Working both roles weekly means about 22 hours per week normally, up to around 30 in some months.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily recess programming Monday through Friday, generally 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, keeping it safe, fun and organized.
• Oversee daily operations, support the coaching team and act as ANTS' main representative at the school site.
• Coordinate daily communication with the coaching team, develop and share recess plans, and lead pre-session coach huddles.
• Maintain positive relationships with school staff and handle behavioral, safety or operational concerns.
• Coach weekly after-school sports classes (Fall: September through December 2026) for at least one day per week, M-F, with two back-to-back two-hour sessions; Saturday availability is needed for flag football league games in October and November.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with youth (K-5), preferably in a coaching or education setting.
• Proven ability to lead a team, communicate clearly and stay professional on site.
• Confidence in planning and adapting the youth sports curriculum.
• Ability to build rapport with school administrators and represent ANTS well.
• Punctual, organized and reliable, with good interpersonal skills.
• Must pass a state and federal background check (LiveScan) and test negative for TB within the past 4 years.
• Reliable transportation and availability for the full program schedule.
