Youth Flag Football League Coach - Oakland (Fall 2026)

About the role

ANTS (America's Next Talented Stars) is looking for passionate, committed part-time Youth Flag Football Coaches for K-5th grade students in Oakland for Fall 2026. Coaches lead weekly after-school flag football classes at one or more partner elementary schools in Oakland and the greater East Bay. No previous coaching experience is required, as all coaches receive training. The season runs from September through December 2026, with weekday classes of 2 hours and Saturday game days.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a fun and safe weekly flag football class for children aged 5-11
• Teach the fundamentals of sports through a cohesive, game-filled lesson plan (training provided)
• Attend an in-person orientation training
• Arrive on time each week for the full season and keep accurate attendance
• Interact positively with parents, teachers and school staff
• Set up before and clean up after each session, and transport equipment to and from class
• Coach teams in Saturday games against other schools (October-November)

Required profile

• Available at least one day per week, M-F, in the afternoon (3-6 p.m.), for the full 10-14 week season
• Reliable transportation to the coaching site; a vehicle is very helpful because equipment must be brought to and from class
• Strong communication skills, patience with young children, and a positive attitude about sportsmanship, wellness and positivity
• Experience as a player or coach (at least two years) is highly valued but optional
• Must pass a federal and state background check (and/or FBI fingerprinting) and test negative for tuberculosis within the last four years

What we offer

• Pay of $25-35 per hour
• Flexible schedule allowing work in the afternoon alongside school and other commitments
• Ongoing training and support
• Possibility to coach other sports such as tennis, basketball, soccer, volleyball and pickleball, and to return for the whole school year and weekend/summer programs
