Youth & Education Intern

About the role

The Youth & Education Intern will support the IRC Youth and Education team in delivering the Student Support Volunteer Tutoring Program for recently resettled refugee youth. Working directly with volunteers and students, the intern helps coordinate tutoring pairs, track progress, and create a supportive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Contact newly arrived families by phone to identify students interested in tutoring.
• Recruit, interview, and onboard community volunteers.
• Match volunteers with eligible middle- and high-school students based on demographics and location.
• Schedule and facilitate initial meetings between tutors, students, and program supervisors.
• Build positive relationships with refugee youth and foster a fun, supportive atmosphere.
• Expand program reach through outreach initiatives.
• Document all steps and case notes in the program’s databases.
• Provide monthly office support and reception coverage as needed.

Required profile

• Self-starter able to complete tasks efficiently and on time.
• Strong communication skills and comfort speaking with families and volunteers.
• Interest in teaching, social work, or nonprofit youth programs.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
