Yard Switcher - 2nd Shift

About the role

HD Supply is looking for a Yard Switcher for the 2nd shift who operates a switcher truck to move tractor trailers around a distribution center yard. Duties include backing trailers to loading docks, performing safety checks, opening bay doors and helping dock workers load and unload inventory. The position requires operating a company or rental vehicle, and the company monitors Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs); an acceptable MVR and a valid CDL with a hazardous materials endorsement are required.

Key responsibilities

• Transport trailers within the distribution center, moving them between shipping and receiving docks
• Couple and uncouple tractor-trailer units, including connecting and disconnecting brake lines as needed
• Move and organize line-haul trailers in the shipping yard so inventory can move efficiently
• Ensure trailers are ready for loading, unloading and transport, and document all trailer moves
• Perform equipment inspections in line with DOT regulations and internal procedures
• Refuel the switcher truck when needed
• Work independently under limited supervision, and guide and train junior support personnel

Required profile

• Preferred: current Class A or B CDL issued in the state of residence with a hazardous materials endorsement
• Preferred: 2+ years of commercial driving experience compliant with FMCSA and DOT regulations
• Preferred: no more than 2 minor accidents and no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years
• Preferred: prior yard jockey experience
• Preferred: technical certification or associate degree in a related field, and about 5-7 years of related experience
