Wine and Spirits Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Wine and Spirits Clerk in Plymouth. The clerk provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, educates customers about products and keeps the department stocked and well displayed. Night and weekend shifts are required.

Key responsibilities

• Smile and greet customers, learn their names and help them find products, including escorting them, securing out-of-reach items and loading or unloading heavy items
• Answer the telephone promptly and pass along customer suggestions and requests
• Educate customers about products and maintain displays in the department and throughout the store
• Rotate, face and replenish merchandise, check in product, put it away and review invoices
• Follow local, state and company policies on tobacco and liquor sales, and practice proper sanitation and personal hygiene
• Remove trash in a timely manner and report to work on time
• Secondary duties: order product at the supervisor's request, assist with inventory, build displays and help in other store areas

Required profile

• No formal education required
• Over six months up to one year of similar or related work experience
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions, do simple addition and subtraction, and count and record figures
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, plus climbing, stooping, kneeling and repetitive motions
• Good vision, depth perception, color vision and field of vision, with or without correction

Working conditions

• Fast-paced environment with significant pressure, occasional exposure to dirt, cleaning solvents and equipment movement hazards, and temperature extremes and dampness
• Equipment used includes a two-wheeler, cash register, pallet jack, box cutter, feather duster and telephone
• Daily contact with customers, employees, suppliers and vendors

The anticipated hourly starting wage is $13.50 to $16.80 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
