Delicatessen Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Delicatessen Clerk in Plymouth. The clerk handles food safely, keeps the work area clean and neat, runs the department registers and receives payments, and provides courteous, friendly and efficient customer service. The position is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Perishables, Store Operations and Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director and Delicatessen Department Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers by name when possible, and escort or help customers find products
• Answer the telephone and take customer orders, then take orders at the delicatessen counter and review the day's orders
• Prepare, finish and replenish products, check inventory, put products away and review invoices
• Anticipate daily product needs and maintain an adequate food supply
• Follow proper sanitation procedures, check food freshness and remove trash in a timely manner
• Run department registers, make change and receive payments where applicable
• Secondary duties include washing dishes, ordering product and supplies, delivering orders, pricing products and assisting in other store areas

Required profile

• Age 18 or older
• Less than high school education or equivalent, and six months or less of similar or related work experience
• Able to follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information and solve arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, with clear vision, color vision and depth perception
• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp and perform repetitive motions

The work is fast-paced, with daily exposure to dust, noise, equipment movement hazards and electrical shock, and occasional exposure to temperature extremes and cleaning chemicals. Starting hourly wage is $13.50 to $16.80 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
