Welder – 2nd Shift (York, PA)

About the role

Johnson Controls Federal Systems is seeking an experienced Welder/Fitter for the 2nd shift at its York, PA plant. The team designs and manufactures complex chilled‑water HVAC and refrigeration equipment for U.S. Navy vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret isometric drawings, 3‑D models, welding symbols and code specifications to fabricate and assemble pressure‑vessel components.
• Perform floor erection, fixture assembly and welding of ferrous and non‑ferrous metals in all positions, including stick, TIG, SMAW, FCAW and submerged‑arc processes.
• Prepare materials by cleaning, bead‑blasting or grinding, then weld, clean and dress welds to Navy standards.
• Execute carbon‑arc or plasma‑arc gouging, repair defective parts, and maintain a safe, organized work area.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least 3 years of welding experience using SMAW, FCAW and GTAW.
• Pass a Navy 2‑inch pipe 6G test using E7018 filler material.
• U.S. citizenship required for this government contract.
• Ability to perform continuous physical work, lift heavy materials and work in strenuous positions.

Required skills

• SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, Submerged Arc Welding, Stick, TIG and Manual Arc welding.
• Carbon‑arc and plasma‑arc gouging.
• Interpretation of isometric drawings, welding symbols and code specifications.
• Use of tape measures, levels, laser levels, combination squares, guarded platforms, ladders and pneumatic tools.
• Proficiency with weld gauges (fillet and V‑gauge) and E7018 filler material.

• Starting pay $40.31 /hr plus $2.00 shift differential (total $42.31 /hr).
