Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Machining

About the role

Johnson Controls Federal Systems is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve machining operations at its York, PA plant. The role focuses on refining processes, resolving production issues, and driving continuous‑improvement initiatives in a manual and CNC machine shop environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and refine manufacturing processes, tooling, and production controls for existing products.
• Provide hands‑on support to resolve day‑to‑day manufacturing issues and ensure stable production.
• Lead continuous‑improvement projects targeting scrap reduction, uptime optimization, and cost‑reduction.
• Manage capital equipment planning, justification, procurement, and facility layout changes.
• Coordinate technical support across Materials, Quality, Engineering, and Safety teams.
• Apply lean methodologies such as 5S, Six Sigma, and Kaizen, and lead 5S activities.
• Develop and maintain Standard Work Instructions and support drawing changes.
• Evaluate specifications, cost estimates, and supplier manufacturability; assist vendors in production startups.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least 15 years of hands‑on manufacturing engineering experience (or 7‑10 years without a degree).
• Strong background in manual and CNC machining operations.
• Proven ability to lead lean initiatives and develop standard work instructions.
• Experience managing capital equipment projects and facility layout changes.
• Ability to support supplier production startups and conduct technical assessments.
• Physical ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lb.
