Web Developer

About the role

The Poynter Institute for Media Studies is seeking a Web Developer to join its small, dynamic in‑house web team. You will work on both front‑end and back‑end tasks, collaborating on WordPress‑based CMS and LMS platforms to deliver high‑quality, user‑focused web solutions throughout the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean, functional, well‑documented code and maintain reusable libraries.
• Design and develop plugins, templates, and ongoing enhancements for WordPress and other platforms.
• Translate UI/UX designs into functional web features.
• Support pre‑ and post‑release testing, cross‑browser compatibility, and bug fixing.
• Collaborate with freelancers/contractors to ensure successful project completion.
• Participate in backlog refinement, daily stand‑ups, and other Agile ceremonies.
• Stay current on new software approaches, architectures, and vendor solutions.
• Consider non‑functional requirements such as security, performance, scalability, and usability when building solutions.

Required profile

• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years of professional software development experience.
• Ability to work effectively in an Agile environment and adapt to changing priorities.
