Web Applications Developer II – WordPress & Full‑Stack Development

About the role

The Web Applications Developer II will design, build, and maintain WordPress‑based websites and custom web applications for Texas A&M AgriLife. The role involves both front‑end and back‑end development, ensuring modern, accessible, and high‑performing digital experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze code, configurations, and production results to resolve complex WordPress and web‑application issues.
• Develop custom WordPress themes, block themes, plugins, and Gutenberg blocks following modern development practices.
• Implement front‑end and back‑end components using PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Create and maintain integrations with external APIs, databases, and other web services.
• Participate in project planning, work‑plan creation, and milestone tracking with project leaders.
• Test solutions for functionality, cross‑browser compatibility, responsive behavior, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least four years of professional web‑development experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Required skills

• WordPress development (themes, plugins, block editor/Gutenberg, Full Site Editing, theme.json).
• PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3.
• REST API design and integration.
• Version control (Git) and collaborative workflows.
• Responsive design, cross‑browser compatibility, and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility.
• Database concepts and relational database interaction.
