VP Specialty Healthcare (Underwriting)

About the role

DUAL North America is seeking a Senior Vice President of Underwriting for its Healthcare division. The role is a tactical leadership position reporting to the EVP Underwriting, Healthcare, with a hybrid setup and up to 15% travel. It balances strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in complex underwriting matters, managing risks, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and driving performance against underwriting goals.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a small to mid-sized team, including performance evaluations, hiring, recruiting and termination decisions
• Define team production goals aligned to division goals and drive execution, both personally and through direct reports
• Review referrals from team members and curate a portfolio of business in line with Underwriting Guidelines and pricing tools, possibly providing input to governance
• Own division-level projects and initiatives outside their direct expertise, and possibly manage a small team's budget including staffing and T&E costs
• Build relationships with capacity providers and act as subject matter expert for peers and leadership
• Execute annual new and renewal business goals, achieving premium income, quote numbers and retention targets
• Foster new relationships with key producers to grow business

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in risk management, finance, business or a related field preferred
• 8-12 years of healthcare underwriting experience; surplus lines and wholesale broker experience preferred
• Professional certifications such as CPCU, AU or similar preferred
• Ability to travel up to 15% for client meetings, conferences and industry events
• Must be able to sit in a stationary position about 50% of the time

Required skills

• In-depth understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk assessment
• Strong analytical, negotiation and decision-making skills
• Proven ability to manage and build broker and client relationships
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
