Associate Underwriter E&S Property

About the role

DUAL North America is seeking an Associate Underwriter for its E&S Property division, based in Atlanta, GA or Chicago, IL, in a hybrid arrangement. The role supports a team of underwriters handling non-standard and complex risks, helping with account quoting and binding, preparing communications and serving customers throughout the underwriting life cycle. It reports to the Underwriter, E&S Property or above, with 0-10% travel.

Key responsibilities

• Triage submissions for Underwriters and provide backup support while they travel in the market
• Gather and compile the information needed to quote and/or bind an account
• Generate, edit and send correspondence such as declination letters, quote follow-ups and subjectivity reminders
• Learn market dynamics, competitive landscape and product differences, and attend weekly underwriting meetings if applicable
• Support brokers in placing hard-to-place business and build producer relationships under supervision
• Fill in for other team members during peak periods and complete assigned clerical and administrative duties
• Work toward underwriting authority: quotes and binders issued only after senior underwriter approval, with policy issuance review and inspection review and post-inspection changes

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in risk management, finance, business or a related field preferred
• 0-1 year of underwriter or insurance experience
• Foundational knowledge of insurance principles
• Ability to follow policies and procedures, work independently for long periods and learn quickly
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Travel up to 10% with an underwriter to shadow interactions with brokers
• Able to sit in a stationary position 50% of the time

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Basic understanding of technical underwriting principles
