Volunteer Coordinator

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator to support its mission of assisting refugees, asylees, and victims of human trafficking. In this role you will partner with program staff to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, interns, and mentors, ensuring a well‑managed and trauma‑informed volunteer program.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with IRC staff to identify volunteer, intern, mentor, and AmeriCorps needs across programs.
• Recruit, screen, onboard, and supervise volunteers, interns, and mentors, maintaining accurate records in a central database.
• Develop and deliver trauma‑informed training materials for all volunteer‑facing roles.
• Organize three annual recruitment cycles, manage applications, interviews, background checks, and account setup/closure.
• Maintain relationships with local universities and community/faith‑based organizations for mentor outreach.
• Match family mentors with refugees and asylees, provide ongoing support, and coordinate monthly group sessions.

Required profile

• Passionate about humanitarian work and solutions‑driven change.
• Experience coordinating volunteers, interns, or mentors in a nonprofit or humanitarian setting.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple recruitment cycles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work with diverse staff, volunteers, and community partners.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using a central volunteer database system.
• Ability to develop trauma‑informed training content.
• Knowledge of background‑check procedures and account management.
