Visitor Services Shift Supervisor

About the role

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is seeking a reliable, experienced individual to lead the Visitor Services team during assigned shifts. This part‑time, hourly position supports ticketing, membership sales, and overall guest experience while acting as the on‑site supervisor in the manager’s absence.

Key responsibilities

• Perform shift opening and closing procedures, complete related reports.
• Sell tickets and memberships in person and over the phone, and handle inquiries via email.
• Address and resolve customer service issues, identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Create and distribute the weekly events calendar for staff.
• Troubleshoot point‑of‑sale and parking‑deck system issues.
• Maintain up‑to‑date Visitor Services handbook, phone lists, and informational materials.
• Review event sheets and communicate updates to staff.
• Assist with training new team members.

Required profile

• Experience with point‑of‑sale systems and daily sales reconciliation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of customer service principles.
• Prior experience as a team lead or supervisor, preferably in a museum, hospitality, or retail setting.
• Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills; ability to interact courteously with a diverse public.
• Capability to work effectively in both fast‑paced and slower environments.
• Physical ability to lift under 10 lb, stand or sit at a workstation, and move throughout the museum and parking deck (reasonable accommodation available).
