About the role
The Northeastern University School of Law seeks a distinguished scholar or practitioner to fill the Margaret Burnham Visiting Professorship in Civil Rights. This one‑year, fixed‑term appointment (renewable up to three years) will lead the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project, teach related courses, and engage in public advocacy.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project, including its clinics, research, and litigation.
- Teach a clinic seminar and/or civil‑rights courses.
- Conduct public engagement through community outreach, media commentary, and participation in national civil‑rights conversations.
- Advise and mentor law students, contributing to the academic community.
Required profile
- Terminal law degree (JD, LLB, or equivalent) or distinguished practice/expertise in civil rights.
- Recognized expertise in civil rights or Black studies as a scholar, practitioner, or public figure.
- Proven ability to engage public audiences and drive national civil‑rights discussions.
- Demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching and student mentorship.
What we offer
- Competitive salary range $115,000 – $150,000.
