Associate Director - Contracts

About the role

The Associate Director of Contracts leads the technology transfer contracts function at Northeastern University, ensuring efficient execution of licensing and research agreements that support commercialization of university IP.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate and finalize a variety of technology transfer agreements, including licenses, material transfer and non‑disclosure agreements.
• Evaluate contractual risk, develop mitigation strategies, and serve as escalation point for complex deals.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to contract staff and oversee day‑to‑day operations of the contracts function.
• Collaborate with the Commercialization Team and Office of General Counsel to align agreements with university policy and legal requirements.
• Monitor compliance, licensing revenue, and grant reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with 3‑5 years of experience in technology licensing, contract negotiation or commercialization.
• Strong knowledge of IP rights, indemnification, publication restrictions, data ownership and export controls.
• Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills, with ability to manage multiple projects.
• Demonstrated integrity, professionalism and collaborative approach.
