Vision Application Technician

About the role

Matroid is seeking a Vision Application Technician to serve as the technical expert on end‑to‑end image formation and camera system design. You will work from the new downtown Palo Alto office, balancing hands‑on lab work with frequent field deployments to ensure high‑quality camera integrations for visual inspection use cases.

Key responsibilities

• Research and evaluate novel image formation systems for advanced deep‑learning visual inspection.
• Collaborate with sales and engineering to specify optimal camera, lens, lighting, and hardware solutions.
• Experiment, fine‑tune, and troubleshoot imaging systems to maximize image and video quality.
• Configure and troubleshoot switches, routers, and other network components in acquisition pipelines.
• Assist with on‑site installations, camera deployments, and hardware bring‑up, traveling 50%–100% of the time.
• Provide on‑call, on‑site, and remote technical support and deliver training sessions for customers.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of camera system pipelines and trade‑offs affecting image quality.
• Hands‑on experience selecting and configuring camera hardware for industrial or manufacturing environments.
• Working knowledge of networking infrastructure, including switches and routers.
• Practical experience troubleshooting imaging systems in both lab and field settings.
• Comfortable supporting customers directly through on‑site visits, remote sessions, and training.
• Excellent collaboration, presentation, and communication skills.
• Self‑driven mindset with ability to work independently and within cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Camera system pipelines and hardware configuration.
• Networking infrastructure (switches, routers, GigE, GenICam, USBVision, ONVIF).
• Imaging system troubleshooting.
• Scripting in Python (bonus).
