Vice President of Engineering

About the role

The Vice President of Engineering will lead the engineering team in Columbia, MD, overseeing project delivery, client proposals, and profitability while ensuring high‑quality design standards.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and participate in marketing activities to generate a steady flow of RFPs and build client relationships.
• Prepare written proposals with scope, fees, assumptions, and exclusions; present and negotiate proposals.
• Assign staff to projects, lead kickoff meetings, and supervise project execution to ensure success.
• Support project managers in client and staff communications, schedule coordination, and deadline management.
• Ensure billing and profitability targets are met for the Columbia office.
• Promote and develop company design and production standards.
• Educate and develop design staff, act as a technical resource, and evaluate performance.
• Maintain and improve quality‑control procedures related to design, budget, and schedule.
• Collaborate with Regional VP and President of Engineering on staffing and office growth plans.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with at least 10 years of experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• Valid driver's license.
• Strong decision‑making, judgment, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Revit.
• Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software.
