Stormwater Deputy Director

About the role

The Stormwater Deputy Director provides senior management support for projects, business development, and staff oversight at Straughan Environmental’s home office in Columbia, MD.

Key responsibilities

• Lead major stormwater projects, maintaining schedule, budget, client relationships and ensuring quality deliverables.
• Manage and mentor multiple staff members, fostering technical, administrative and business development skills.
• Drive business development initiatives, including proposal preparation and teaming efforts.
• Act as the acting Director when needed and represent the firm at conferences and client meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in stormwater management, project leadership, client relations and staff supervision.
• Active involvement in professional organizations and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MicroStation or AutoCAD.
• Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Suite.
• Experience using engineering software such as Geopak, InRoads, HEC‑RAS, TR‑20 and TR‑55.
• Technical expertise in stormwater design, erosion & sediment control, drainage system design, hydrology & hydraulics analyses, dam safety, flood studies and resiliency strategies.
