Vice President, Finance and Strategy

About the role

Bluestem Biosciences is seeking a senior finance leader to drive financial operations and long‑range strategic planning. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Vice President will build a best‑in‑class finance function that supports rapid growth and commercialization of bio‑based chemicals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all financial planning & analysis, accounting, treasury, and capital management activities.
• Develop and own the techno‑economic assessment (TEA) and financial forecasts for the technology and company.
• Manage third‑party grant accountants and ensure compliant grant reporting.
• Design and execute project financing strategies, securing debt and equity for large‑scale projects.
• Structure and negotiate offtake agreements, joint ventures, and other commercial contracts.
• Oversee financial modeling and due diligence for new market opportunities, M&A, and strategic partnerships.
• Prepare board materials, quarterly and annual reviews, and monitor financial risks.
• Build and maintain relationships with investors, financial institutions, and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven senior finance experience in a high‑growth industry such as biotech or advanced manufacturing.
• Strong background in corporate strategy, investment banking, or venture capital.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to synthesize complex financial information for executives, board members, and investors.
• Self‑starter who can lead projects, build relationships, and represent the company externally.
