About the role
The VESL Plus Internship supports the International Rescue Committee’s vocational English and work‑readiness program for newly‑arrived refugees. Working onsite at the El Cajon office, the intern will gain hands‑on experience teaching English, developing curriculum, and providing essential administrative support.
Key responsibilities
- Assist VESL teachers in classroom instruction and support multi‑level learners.
- Research and develop English language teaching materials tailored to refugee needs.
- Help with program intake, collect and copy required documents, and maintain organized client files (digital and paper).
- Track student attendance and support other administrative tasks as needed.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or a TESOL/TFL certificate program.
- Overseas study experience or prior ESL teaching experience preferred.
- Experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds is a plus.
- Strong computer skills and comfort using online platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Flexible, organized, and self‑starting attitude.
