Utility Locator

About the role

The Utility Locator is responsible for identifying, locating, and marking subsurface utilities to prevent accidental damage during excavation activities. This role works closely with foremen, facility owners, and third‑party contractors to ensure all utilities are accurately documented and safely managed.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain daily communication with GAS Foremen and General Foremen.
• Submit locate requests promptly and ensure foremen receive the correct request before excavation begins.
• Verify positive responses for all locate requests and provide standby information for high‑profile facilities.
• Conduct pre‑excavation inspections of PVREA job sites to confirm that areas are pre‑marked when not easily identifiable.
• Perform spot checks to validate locate marks placed by facility owners and contracted locators.
• Assist facility owners and contracted locators in narrowing down unlocatable facilities.
• Locate privately owned utilities and developer‑owned utilities on both overhead and underground job sites.
• Coordinate with third‑party contractors for locating privately owned sewer services.
• Maintain indefinite copies of all locate requests and ensure public safety throughout the process.

Required profile

• Familiarity with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures related to utility locating.
• Strong ability to communicate effectively with foremen, facility owners, and contractors.
• Attention to detail and commitment to safety in construction environments.
