Utility 17 - Slitting Line Operator

About the role

ABB's NEMA Motors Division is hiring a Utility 17 Slitting Line Operator for its St. Louis Stamping Plant. The main position is slitting line operator, with flexibility to cover other positions such as auto press, punch press, annealing lead and crane operations. The role is onsite, reports to the Manufacturing Manager (NEMA) and Patrick Sexton (3rd shift), and requires working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Perform slitting line operations safely, following ABB safety policies, hazard communication and PPE requirements (safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, cut-resistant gloves, safety sleeves).
• Verify emergency stops and light curtains work, check that press release forms are supervisor signed, and report injuries, accidents and near misses immediately.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds, operate electric pallet trucks, cranes and material handling equipment, and assist with press-line set-up, clearing die jams and end-of-run die cleaning.
• Inspect parts for burrs, chips, slug marks, bent teeth and missing features, check flatness three times per coil, match parts to blueprints and verify inventory tags and coil numbers against work orders.
• Follow written and verbal instructions, read work orders and blueprints, complete documentation such as Non-Con Red Tags, and work daily and weekend overtime on short notice.

Required profile

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, grip, turn, push, bend, reach overhead and stand for long periods.
• Dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate hand tools, power tools, electric chain hoists, pneumatic shears, wire twisters, pallet jacks and press controls.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints and shipping labels, and to read, write and use a calculator.
• Reliable attendance, including daily and weekend overtime.
