Slitting Line Operator

About the role

ABB's NEMA Motors Division, the global leading electric motor manufacturer, is hiring a Slitting Line Operator in Saint Louis. The position reports to the Manufacturing Manager (NEMA) and sits within the 3rd shift, reporting to Patrick Sexton. It is an onsite, hourly position with a pay range of $23.34-$29.59, plus a shift premium for the 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Operate overhead and jib cranes, hoists, coil carts, scanners, computers and electric pallet trucks to move material through the slitting operation.
• Set up and configure head configurations and re-coilers according to production specs, aligning coils properly on dereelers and turnstiles.
• Check slit widths, material thickness and burrs with measuring equipment, and match coil and print numbers to process sheets.
• Maintain production documentation: read schedules and process sheets, enter inventory data, print tags, complete QFSP-0004 forms and scan materials in and out of inventory.
• Communicate with slitting partners, crane operators, die setters, supervisors and material handlers, and carry out daily equipment cleanup and maintenance such as die cleaning and scrap pan emptying.
• Perform physical tasks including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, standing and walking for long periods, and work scheduled shifts with availability for daily and weekend overtime.

Required profile

• Comply with ABB safety policies and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves and safety sleeves).
• Identify and check emergency shutoffs, light curtains and safety systems, and wear Kevlar sleeves when handling metal strips.
• Able to read, write, use a calculator and computer, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Regular attendance and punctuality.

Required skills

• Operating slitting line equipment, overhead cranes, hoists, pneumatic and hydraulic tools, pallet jacks and controls.
• Using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers and dial indicators.
• Dexterity and hand-eye coordination for complex equipment setup.
