University Supervisor for Teacher Candidates (Clinical Observations)

About the role

North Park University’s School of Education is seeking a University Supervisor to oversee clinical observations for teacher candidates during their student‑teaching placements. The supervisor bridges academic preparation with real‑world classroom practice, ensuring candidates meet professional standards and are prepared for licensure.

Key responsibilities

• Observe and evaluate teacher candidates (2‑3 observations per candidate) during student‑teaching placements.
• Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to support professional growth.
• Collaborate with cooperating teachers and school administrators to create a supportive learning environment.
• Conduct mid‑term and final evaluations using university rubrics and assessment tools.
• Facilitate reflective conversations and goal‑setting with candidates.
• Maintain accurate documentation of observations, evaluations, and communications.
• Attend orientation sessions and periodic supervisor meetings hosted by the School of Education.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in education or a related field (Doctorate preferred).
• Valid teaching license and at least five years of classroom experience.
• Prior experience supervising or mentoring pre‑service teachers.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities.
• Commitment to North Park University’s mission, diversity, faith, and community engagement.

Required skills

• Familiarity with the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
• Experience with edTPA or similar evaluation models.
• Knowledge of Illinois State Performance Evaluation standards.
