Underwriting Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

Assurant is looking for an Underwriting Intern for its Summer 2027 program, a 12-week immersive experience in Florida Virtual. The intern supports the Underwriting team with risk analysis, portfolio management, reporting and underwriting processes, gaining hands-on experience in insurance underwriting, data analysis and cross-functional collaboration. The internship is paid at $22 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Data collection, analysis and reporting of underwriting and portfolio performance metrics, and review of underwriting results, trends, risk characteristics and financial performance.
• Prepare underwriting reports, presentations and business insights for internal stakeholders, and support pricing initiatives and risk management decisions.
• Help identify process improvements and use reporting and analytical tools to manage and interpret underwriting data.
• Collaborate with underwriting, finance, product and operations teams.
• Take part in team meetings and brainstorming, document processes, SOPs and work instructions, and support special projects on portfolio management, risk assessment and business analytics.
• Contribute to process mapping and workflow optimization.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate program in Risk Management, Finance, Business Management, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Information Systems or a related field; master's degree candidates also considered.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
• Interest in insurance, underwriting, risk assessment and business analytics.
• Must be work-authorized in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship; F-1 visa holders who need sponsorship are not eligible.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, reporting and basic modeling.
• Teamwork, written and verbal communication, attention to detail, organization and independent work.
• Preferred: Microsoft Office Suite, data visualization or analytical tools (Power BI, Tableau, SQL).
