TRIO Talent Search Academic Advisor

About the role

The TRIO Talent Search Academic Advisor inspires and guides students toward their college and career aspirations. Working as both coach and cheerleader, the Advisor provides one‑on‑one counseling and dynamic presentations to motivate youth.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit new participants and deliver college‑preparatory curriculum in target middle and high schools.
• Advise students on academic planning, high‑school graduation requirements, scholarship and financial‑aid options, and college application processes.
• Organize program activities such as campus visits, summer camps, educational trips, and other college‑access initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records and databases for all participants, documenting services and tracking progress for annual reporting.
• Travel regularly to schools and occasional conferences, ensuring reliable attendance and punctuality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, behavioral science, public administration, or a related field.
• Minimum two years of experience working with middle‑ and high‑school youth, especially first‑generation or low‑income students.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for regular travel.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using databases and design software for program development.
