Assistant Professor – Master of Library and Information Studies

About the role

The University of Arkansas Libraries is launching its inaugural Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) program and seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor. Reporting to the Director of the MLIS Program, the hire will lead graduate teaching and help shape the practitioner‑oriented curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Teach graduate courses on a 2‑2‑1 load (two courses each fall and spring, one in summer or flex term).
• Advise and mentor MLIS students, guiding capstone and thesis projects.
• Participate in recruiting, admissions, and orientation activities.
• Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and ALA accreditation efforts.
• Maintain an active research agenda to meet promotion and tenure requirements.
• Serve on departmental, college, and university committees and engage in professional service.

Required profile

• Earned doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) in Library and Information Science or a closely related field, conferred by June 1 2027 (ABD candidates may be considered).
• Master of Library Science (MLS) or MLIS from an ALA‑accredited program, earned before start of employment.
• Evidence of potential for effective graduate‑level teaching.
• Professional experience in academic librarianship is preferred.
• Record of scholarly or professional achievement, or clear research potential.
• Experience in recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students.
• Experience with curriculum development or new program creation.
