Traffic Plans & Contracts Technician (Engineering Technician IV)

About the role

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, is hiring one Traffic Plans & Contracts Technician (Engineering Technician IV) in Dixon, IL. The position is accountable for designing and preparing contract plans for traffic control signal installations and modernizations, highway signing, roadway lighting and crash analysis reports for project development, and for identifying serious safety hazards across the school districts in District 2. It also includes reviewing contract plans from outside agencies and developing a list of candidate Hazard Elimination and Safety Program projects. The position is salaried, full time, unionized, and offers a hybrid schedule of 1 to 5 days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare contract plans for traffic signals, lighting and signing projects, and for serious safety hazard findings.
• Review plans from outside agencies to ensure compliance with department policies.
• Assist in preparing the District Safety Improvement Program.
• Analyze accident patterns and identify corrective measures.
• Research file data to prepare written or oral responses to inquiries about traffic engineering.
• Supply district personnel and outside agencies with information on traffic engineering.

Required profile

What we offer

• Anticipated starting salary of $5,082 per month, with a full range of $5,082 to $9,309 per month.
• Work hours of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
