Telecommunications Infrastructure Designer

About the role

The University of Miami Information Technology & Systems Department seeks a full‑time Telecommunications Infrastructure Designer to plan, design, document, and coordinate structured cabling and fiber‑optic systems across its academic and healthcare campuses.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and design structured cabling, fiber‑optic infrastructure, telecommunications rooms, and pathways.
• Prepare technical specifications, design narratives, budget estimates, and scopes of work.
• Review architectural and engineering documents to identify telecommunications requirements.
• Coordinate design activities with architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Conduct field surveys, infrastructure assessments, construction inspections, and project acceptance reviews.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent and a valid Florida driver’s license.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in telecommunications infrastructure design.
• Registered Communications Distribution Designer certification preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
