About the role
The Teen Technology Mentor supports NYPL’s Teens 360º Initiative by delivering hands‑on creative‑technology instruction and mentorship to young adult patrons across multiple teen centers, with a focus on Bronx locations. This temporary, grant‑funded role is ideal for individuals passionate about community development through informal learning.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, and facilitate project‑based technology programs for teen patrons, adapting content for varied skill levels.
- Provide digital‑literacy training in visual art, music/audio production, 3D modeling, photography, videography, coding, robotics, and digital fabrication.
- Mentor youth, fostering an inclusive, safe, and creative learning environment.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot creative‑technology hardware and software, including 3D printers, cutting machines, cameras, audio gear, and Apple devices.
- Collaborate with librarians, branch staff, and design colleagues to enhance program delivery and outreach.
- Track attendance, equipment usage, and program data; promote programs across locations.
- Travel to multiple NYPL branches to deliver instruction.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (4+ years of related work acceptable).
- Strong interest in youth development, community education, and informal learning.
- Ability to work with diverse cultures, backgrounds, and skill levels.
- Excellent communication and mentorship skills.
