Tax Director – Leadership Search

About the role

The Tax Director will lead the company’s tax function, overseeing strategy, compliance, reporting and planning for a publicly‑traded technology firm headquartered in Orange County. This hybrid role reports to the VP of Tax and works closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal and SEC teams.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee U.S. federal, state and local tax compliance, including corporate and partnership returns, estimates and distributions.
• Support preparation and review of income tax provisions (ASC 740), journal entries and disclosures in coordination with Finance and external advisors.
• Manage property, business license, sales & use tax filings, audits and tax authority inquiries.
• Coordinate R&D tax credit studies and Section 174 analyses.
• Lead tax planning and research to minimize liabilities and optimize the effective tax rate.
• Ensure compliance with SOX, internal controls and drive process improvements and technology adoption.

Required profile

• 8–10 years of tax experience in a Big 4 firm or large corporate tax department, including U.S. income tax provisions and SEC reporting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.
• Experience with public‑company or private‑equity tax reporting environments.
• Proven leadership, mentoring and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
