System Administrator III

About the role

The Systems Administrator III provides technical leadership for complex server and infrastructure projects at Texas A&M University‑Kingsville. Reporting to IT leadership, the role oversees compliance with standards, coordinates a support team, and ensures reliable, secure services for the campus community.

Key responsibilities

• Design, configure, and maintain large, complex server environments, including performance tuning and capacity planning.
• Lead system security initiatives, develop disaster recovery plans, and oversee backup and problem‑management processes.
• Coordinate audits, system‑log analysis, and documentation of server configurations and support procedures.
• Evaluate new technologies, make recommendations, and approve deployment and integration testing plans.
• Provide Tier III technical support and mentor junior staff throughout project lifecycles.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of systems administration experience in a higher‑education or similar environment.
• Strong analytical, written communication, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to multitask, work collaboratively, and lead technical teams.
