Surgical Technologist – Operating Room Support

About the role

The Surgical Technologist joins Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital’s operating rooms to support surgeons and nurses, ensuring a safe, sterile environment for each procedure. This full‑time position offers hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced surgical setting with day‑shift hours and on‑call coverage.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and set up sterile tables, supplies, drugs, and equipment for surgeries.
• Perform surgical counts, drape the sterile field, and pass instruments during procedures.
• Assist with gowning, gloving, and patient draping, maintaining aseptic conditions throughout the operation.
• Participate in intra‑operative time‑outs and collect, label, and hand over specimens.
• Support cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments after cases.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program (CAAHEP or ABHES) or equivalent military program.
• Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Tech in Surgery (TS‑C).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 25 lb, and push/pull carts over 75 lb.
• Full range of motion, manual dexterity, and corrected vision/hearing.

Required skills

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or TS‑C credential.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Knowledge of sterile technique, instrument handling, and surgical counts.
