Patient Access Representative I

About the role

Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital, a Magnet-designated hospital, is hiring a Patient Access Representative I in the Admitting and Registration department of the Emergency Department. The role delivers an exceptional experience to patients, families and visitors from arrival until discharge, helping them with registration, insurance eligibility, co-payments, self-screening and scheduling. It is a day shift from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including every other weekend and three holidays per year, and includes a 2-week EPIC training on the first day.

Key responsibilities

• Perform registration and collect information on demographics, insurance, medical and financial details.
• Cross-train with staff across patient access areas such as the front desk, admitting office, ED and cash register.
• Act as a Super User and train new caregivers.
• Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with two years of customer-facing experience, or an Associate's degree with one year, or a Bachelor's degree.
• Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders, or completion of a course within one year.
• Ability to work confidently and efficiently in an emergency department setting.
• Ability to communicate accurately, work in a stationary position for long periods, handle physical records or operate office equipment, and follow standard precautions with personal protective equipment.

Required skills

• Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems.
• Registration and cash collection in Epic.
