Assistant Nurse Manager - Emergency Department

About the role

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in the 24/7 Emergency Department at Avon Hospital, a Magnet‑recognized facility. This night‑shift position focuses on patient assessment, policy improvement, staff scheduling, and onboarding new nurses.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise RNs and nursing support staff, ensuring quality patient care.
• Conduct patient admissions, assess needs, and develop nursing care plans.
• Evaluate and document patient progress and outcomes.
• Assist in developing and implementing unit policies and procedures.
• Prepare work schedules to guarantee adequate coverage.
• Serve as liaison between management, caregivers, and other departments.
• Participate in quality‑improvement projects, outcomes studies, and research initiatives.
• Orient and mentor new caregivers and support continuing education.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) and current RN licensure.
• Minimum two years of recent clinical nursing experience.
• Strong clinical knowledge and demonstrated skill set.
• Physical ability to perform patient handling and work under stressful conditions.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification.
