About the role
The Surgical Technician – Certified First Assist joins Lehigh Valley Health Network to support surgeons during procedures, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Anticipate surgeon needs and manage instruments, supplies, and equipment throughout routine and complex cases.
- Perform sponging, suturing, suctioning, retracting, and hemostasis while maintaining a sterile field.
- Monitor patient vitals and equipment, intervene to prevent risks, and troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Prepare patients for transport to and from the operating room.
- Serve as preceptor for new staff, transfers, and students.
Required profile
- Technical School Diploma in Surgical Technology.
- Minimum 4 years operating‑room experience.
- Ability to lift/carry 40‑50 lb and stand/walk for long periods.
- Commitment to diversity and patient‑centered care.
Required skills
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – NBSTSA, Pennsylvania.
- Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFA) – NBSTSA, Pennsylvania.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association, Pennsylvania.
