Surgical Scheduler (Practice-Based)

About the role

A practice-based Surgical Scheduler is needed at a home health agency in Tampa, Florida, working full time during the day shift. The role covers patient scheduling, referral coordination, payer verification and supervision of clerical operations.

Key responsibilities

• Collect patient clinical and demographic data, insurance or payer information and verify payer coverage, obtaining physician orders
• Arrange support services and ensure written orders for home care are obtained, or request an RN to take verbal orders when needed
• Oversee secretarial staff so that data entry, phone answering, clinical record management and record provision are accurate
• Maintain logs for hospitalized patients, new and resumption-of-care referrals and other referrals, and enter referrals into the computer after verifying required information before admission
• Perform payer verification, including Medicare eligibility and self-pay verification
• Act as liaison between clinicians and clinical teams to schedule patients on time and track referral status
• Liaise with the central billing office to resolve billing issues and coordinate referrals through initial phone evaluations
• Supervise daily clerical operations, assign and delegate tasks, and take part in interviews, orientation and evaluations

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (required)
• 1+ year of experience preferred
• Full-time day shift
• Subject to Florida Level 2 background screening, including fingerprinting, as required by state law
