Supplier Quality Engineer

About the role

Johnson Controls Federal Systems is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to provide day‑to‑day quality engineering support at its Navy Systems plant in York, PA. The role focuses on monitoring, developing and improving strategic suppliers to meet on‑time delivery, first‑pass yield and customer satisfaction goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical quality support to production operations and key suppliers.
• Lead commodity, scrap/rework reduction and RCCA teams to resolve quality issues.
• Conduct supplier quality system audits and evaluate new suppliers using APQP tools.
• Issue and manage corrective actions, develop test and inspection plans, and approve first‑article inspections.
• Analyze supplier performance metrics and communicate improvement plans.
• Partner with Supply Chain, Design and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure compliance with product and system requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Aerospace, Materials Science or related field (preferred).
• 5+ years of manufacturing experience in heavy industrial, automotive, aerospace or metal machining, welding and fabrication.
• Strong knowledge of QMS standards such as ISO 9000, IATF 16949 or AS 9100.
• Proficiency with Advanced Quality Planning methods (D/PFMEA, Control Plan, PPAP/FAI).
• Experience with statistical tools (Minitab) and MS Office.
• Lean or Six Sigma training with demonstrated results.
• Ability to travel up to 10% to supplier sites.
