Supervisor, Keyboard Instruments

About the role

The University of Miami’s Frost School of Music is seeking a full‑time Supervisor of Keyboard Instruments to oversee the care and maintenance of its acoustic and digital keyboards. Reporting to the Manager of Keyboard Instruments, the supervisor will ensure that pianos, digital labs, and specialty keyboards are in optimal condition for faculty, students, and performances.

Key responsibilities

• Tune and regulate pianos in studios, classrooms, rehearsal and concert halls.
• Perform repairs such as string replacement, action part servicing, cabinet and bench work.
• Vacuum pianos, monitor condition, and report issues to the Manager.
• Maintain digital pianos in two keyboard labs and keep an up‑to‑date inventory in Excel.
• Move and install celestas, harpsichords, and other specialty keyboards as needed.
• Supervise external piano‑moving professionals.
• Process purchase orders for new instruments and moving services in Workday.
• Assist with specialized piano tasks assigned by the Manager.
• Foster collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and students.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum three years of experience in piano tuning, repair, and preventative maintenance; five years preferred.
• Current registration with the Piano Technicians Guild is recommended.
• Strong knowledge of piano‑tuning tools and techniques.
• Experience with harpsichords or other specialty keyboard instruments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
