Summer 2027 R&D Intern

About the role

Terumo Neuro, a medical device company developing neuroendovascular technologies for vascular disease, offers a three-month summer internship program. The R&D Intern supports product development through project work focused on verifying specifications, designs, fixtures, test processes and equipment, so that concepts and prototypes meet their requirements. The internship includes an orientation week, facility tours, a speaker series Q&A panel, community service, baseball games and beach events.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in R&D projects
• Device design and process development
• Bench and physical attribute testing, including device flow models
• Data analysis and writing test reports
• Fixture design and documentation development
• Case studies and support for risk management

Required profile

• Working toward a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, materials, biomedical, electrical, chemical engineering or a related discipline
• Creative and inquisitive, with a strong desire to build and create (e.g., robotics, mechanical repair, construction)
• Demonstrated experience reading and preparing technical documentation
• Desired: strong analytical and organizational skills, coursework in 2-D/3-D drawings, knowledge of medical device materials and processes (adhesives, plastics/polymers, metals, laser welding, laser cutting, braiding, lamination), machine shop experience
• Eligible to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship; relocation may be available

Required skills

• Computer skills including MS Word, Excel and CAD
• Desired: SolidWorks

Pay is $20-$24 per hour, depending on experience, education, skills and market conditions.
