Principal Electrical Engineer

About the role

Terumo Neuro is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer in Aliso Viejo, California. As a technical leader, you will lead the development of robust electrical engineering designs and work in a multifunctional group developing electromechanical medical devices, covering the full product lifecycle from concept to final product.

Key responsibilities

• Work in cross-functional teams to identify customer needs and develop systems to meet them.
• Own the electrical and hardware design of electromechanical products and conceptualize unique design solutions.
• Develop theory of operation, system specifications, test plans, protocols and reports.
• Debug analog, power and communications issues and evaluate components for the best solution.
• Design and test functional safety and shielding/grounding for compliance, and ensure designs meet standards such as basic electrical safety and EMC.
• Work with regulatory stakeholders to identify medical device compliance requirements.
• Guide, mentor and supervise assemblers, technicians and engineers; develop and maintain vendor relationships.
• Specify, acquire and maintain electrical laboratory equipment and protect intellectual property.
• Comply with laws and regulations, quality management system processes and ethical standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• 10 to 12 years of related work experience, including at least 6 years in the medical device industry.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Desired: Master's degree in electrical engineering.

Required skills

• Experience designing electronic systems compliant with IEC 60601 and testing electronics in safety-critical and mains-powered applications.
• Schematic capture and PCB layout with ECAD tools (Altium Designer, Allegro, Xpedition, PADS).
• Electrical simulation (LTspice, PSpice) and use of oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DMMs and power supplies.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
• Desired: understanding of AC/DC motors, analog low-noise and high-precision design, FDA regulations, CAPA systems, microcontroller programming in C/C++, and ability to receive the inoculations needed for an operating room.
