Substance Use Disorder Counselor

About the role

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor will provide outreach, counseling, and case management to individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. This full‑time, union position supports Clinica Romero’s mission to build strong community partnerships and expand its SUD program.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct assessments, individual and group therapy sessions, develop treatment plans, and perform urine analysis screenings.
• Maintain accurate case histories, progress notes, and ensure compliance with county and state documentation requirements within 48 hours.
• Facilitate therapeutic groups for youth (12+) and adults, manage crisis interventions, and adjust levels of care as needed.
• Recruit new clients, both youth and adult, through community outreach and relationship building.
• Submit weekly billable hours (minimum 20) and support monthly reporting to the Program Director.

Required profile

• Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) through CCAPP, CAADE, or equivalent.
• At least two years of experience in addiction counseling, preferably with Drug Medi‑Cal clients.
• Strong communication skills, high energy outreach ability, and bilingual Spanish is a plus.
• Understanding of the 12 Core Functions and the twelve‑step recovery process.
