Student Loan Advocate Attorney – Insurance & Financial Services Division

About the role

The Attorney General’s Office is looking for a highly motivated attorney to join the Insurance & Financial Services Division as a Student Loan Advocate Attorney. The role focuses on consumer protection, enforcement of insurance, investment and lending laws, and especially on post‑secondary educational debt.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consumer advocacy and mediation for student loan and debt issues.
• Conduct legal research and investigations related to student loans, lending, insurance, and investment matters.
• Assist consumers in navigating federal repayment and debt‑relief programs.
• Participate in policy development, outreach, and education initiatives.
• Support senior Assistant Attorneys General with litigation, settlement implementation, and advanced legal research.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Familiarity with financial products, student loans, or the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act (preferred).
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to learn technical concepts quickly (preferred).
• Excellent research, writing, editing, and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrated interest in public‑interest law and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
