Staff Veterinarian – Equine Ambulatory Service

About the role

The Louisiana State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is seeking a dedicated Staff Veterinarian to lead its Equine Ambulatory Service. The role involves delivering comprehensive medical and surgical care to horses, supporting student education, and contributing to the hospital’s clinical mission.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 75% of clinical service and instruction within the equine internal medicine section.
• Manage the equine ambulatory service, including field examinations, diagnostics, treatment planning, and follow‑up care.
• Supervise fourth‑year veterinary students, house officers, and technicians during procedures and treatments.
• Participate in the e‑Value assessment system and other educational activities.
• Cover emergency clinical services on a rotating basis, approximately 5‑6 weeks per year, including nights, weekends, holidays, and disaster relief.

Required profile

• DVM or equivalent degree.
• Minimum two years of experience as an equine clinician.
• Eligibility for a Louisiana faculty veterinary license.
• Ability to obtain USDA accreditation within 12 months of hire.
