Staff Software Engineer

About the role

BILL is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and implementation of scalable accounting sync solutions for its payment platform. You will work on a high‑impact team that builds two‑way synchronization between BILL and major accounting systems, serving the majority of its small‑business customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and launch end‑to‑end microservices in AWS that enable real‑time data sync.
• Lead a team of engineers through the full software development lifecycle, from concept to production.
• Drive performance and scalability improvements across the sync platform.
• Collaborate with product, UX, and data teams to deliver a 10x user‑experience improvement.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Proven ability to lead engineers and deliver complex solutions.
• Strong business acumen to translate platform capabilities into customer value.
• Passion for building great products and customer experiences.

Required skills

• Expert‑level Java, SQL and NoSQL database knowledge.
• Extensive experience with AWS services and microservice architecture.
• Proficiency in CI/CD, unit testing, automation testing, and code reviews.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Datadog, Mixpanel, LaunchDarkly.
• Experience with Gen AI prompting and LLM integration.
• Optional: Front‑end development with React or Angular, accounting domain knowledge, and machine‑learning concepts.
