Staff Software Engineer

About the role

Rebuy is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to own and evolve critical checkout, post‑purchase, and experimentation systems for Shopify merchants. You will work across PHP, TypeScript, and AI‑first tooling in a fully remote, high‑autonomy environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own Shopify checkout and post‑purchase extensions, handling runtime constraints and server‑side decision logic.
• Rebuild experimentation reporting, designing data models, PHP/TypeScript endpoints, and BigQuery/MySQL queries.
• Design and implement secure REST APIs in PHP and TypeScript for internal services and Shopify integrations.
• Maintain production health by triaging merchant issues, improving logging, metrics, and rotating on‑call duties.
• Work AI‑first using Anthropic Claude Code, leveraging coding assistants while applying critical judgment.

Required profile

• 8+ years building production web applications with hands‑on PHP (CodeIgniter 4 or similar) and TypeScript/React.
• Proven staff‑level ownership of complex, revenue‑critical systems, including incident response and migrations.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in unfamiliar codebases and experience with MySQL schema design and BigQuery analytics.
• Comfortable working remotely in a fast‑paced, high‑autonomy team and communicating effectively via Slack.
