Staff / Senior Machine Learning Scientist (AI & GenAI)

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Health System is seeking a highly skilled Machine Learning Scientist to lead the development and implementation of state‑of‑the‑art AI models, with a focus on Generative AI for healthcare challenges. The role can be performed remotely and involves shaping the long‑term AI strategy while collaborating with clinical and operational teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, train, fine‑tune and optimize advanced GenAI and machine‑learning models to solve critical healthcare problems.
• Design and conduct experiments to evaluate model performance and robustness.
• Collaborate with IT, operations, and clinical stakeholders to integrate AI solutions into existing and new products.
• Mentor interns, junior scientists, and engineers, providing technical guidance.
• Stay current with the latest developments in GenAI, large language models, and related research.
• Contribute to technology roadmaps and present project updates to cross‑functional partners.

Required profile

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of hands‑on AI/ML research and development experience (or 10+ years post‑master’s).
• Proven expertise in predictive modeling, deep learning, GenAI, and large language models.
• Strong software development skills, especially in Python.
• Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
